Tri N. Pham is Chairman, Vnexus Capital Advisors (VNCA), a Vietnam-based advisory group with partners in Asia, Europe and US. Mr. Pham is well-respected by key local and foreign counterparts, both in government and private sectors. He has provided advice on a wide range of topics, including international capital markets and corporate governance, to senior government officials and top executives in financial institutions and companies, in and outside of Vietnam. He has also been invited to speak at selective economic, diplomatic and academic platforms regarding the development of Vietnam.
Prior to VNCA, Mr. Pham served as Vice Chairman, Bitexco Group (2014-2017), a leading Vietnamese conglomerate in real estate and energy. He spearheaded the Group's restructuring initiatives including reforming its legal and governance framework, and established its international capital market access. Under his leadership, Bitexco formed strategic relationships with foreign institutions, launched landmark financing deals and attained a prominent position in the international platform among a very few top domestic companies.
Previously, Mr. Pham was Chief Country Officer and General Manager for Deutsche Bank Vietnam for 7 years (2007- 2014). In that role, he established a solid franchise and navigated it successfully throughout the Asian financial crisis. Among his achievements, he built a well-balanced gender and all local management team, the first and only among foreign banks in Vietnam to date. Before returning to Vietnam, he had a distinguished 27-year career at the World Bank/IFC in Washington DC including Capital Markets Operations in Europe and Asia. During 1988-1998, he formed successful partnerships with central bank authorities, investment bankers and investors, launching internationally awarded deals and raising billions of dollars for projects in developing countries, including Vietnam.
During the past 15 years in Vietnam, Mr. Pham has provided advice to local business and international companies and funds on a wide range of issue, from entering the domestic markets gaining access to the international capital markets. He currently serves as Chairmen, Independent Board Member and Regional Advisory Board Members for a wide range of funds, and companies and institutions, both foreign and domestic, in this rapidly growing Asian economy.
Mr. René Karsenti is President of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Karsenti was also Chairman of the International Council of Securities Associations (ICSA) and from 2008 to 2014, Chairman of the European Capital Market Institute (ECMI).
From 1995 until joining ICMA in 2006, Mr. Karsenti was Director General, Finance at the EIB, Luxembourg, having previously served as Treasurer, EBRD in London from its inception (1991-95). Prior to EBRD, Mr. Karsenti held various senior Treasury positions in the World Bank Group, including as IFC Treasurer
Mr. Karsenti is Chairman of the Board of the International Finance Facility for Immunisation and member of the following prestigious institutions: Securities & Markets Stakeholder Group of the European Securities and Markets Authority, Strategic Committee of the French Debt Management Office, Investment Advisory Committee of the Food and Agriculture Organisation, OECD Financial Markets Roundtable, and Governing Council of the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation.
Mr. Karsenti holds an Engineering Degree from ESCIL, Lyon and a PhD in Economics from the Sorbonne University in Paris and has been awarded the French Legion d’ Honneur.
Mr. Nguyen Doan Hung had a distinguished 33-year career in both the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and Minister of Finance (MOF) (1980-2013). He first joined the SBV in 1980 and was subsequently appointed in key senior positions:
● 1990: Chief, FX Markets; Deputy Director, FX Control Department
● 1993: Head of Capital Market Development Board
● 1994: Director, Chief of Governor Office
● 1997: Director, FX Control Department
In 2000, Mr. Hung was appointed by SBV to represent VN as Alternate Director, World Bank in Washington DC. In 2003, he returned to Vietnam to become the Vice Chairman of the State Securities Commission (SSC) in MOF. After 10 years with SSC, he retired in November 2013. Since then, Mr. Hung has served as Independent Board Members/Senior Advisors in various major domestic financial institutions including Securities Research and Training Center, TechcomBank, and Phu Hung Securities.
Mr. Hung holds a Master of Science in Financial Management from the UK.
Mr. Sesto Vecchi has over 35 years experience practicing law in Vietnam. His expertise includes Vietnamese corporate, commercial law with particular emphasis on foreign investment and he acts for numerous multinational and mid-size investors, both foreign and Vietnamese.
Mr. Vecchi holds degrees from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania (B.S. in Economics) and Temple University (LLB). Mr. Vecchi taught contract and corporate law to members of the HCM City Bar Association for several years. He has written and spoken extensively on Vietnamese legal issues. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the Board of Governors of the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam.
Mr. Vecchi is a member of the bars of New York and Washington DC.
David Webbe is Managing Director, Global Head of Investment Banking and Private Equity at Global Sage, an international headhunter, responsible for South East Asia. David is an experienced search professional with a keen understanding of senior executives’ strengths and capabilities. He has advised leading ASEAN businesses on CEO selection and succession planning and has delivered numerous searches for Private Equity portfolio companies looking for improved performance.
He has also worked as Head of Global Financial Services for South East Asia, for Korn Ferry and Managing Director of Webbe International, Singapore. He moved to Asia from the UK in 2002. In each of the ASEAN countries, David has developed strong onshore connectivity. In Vietnam he has worked in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on senior executive mandates. He has been consistently ranked by independent journals as a leading professional in the field.
David holds a B.A. (Honours) degree from the University of Kent, Canterbury.
Ms. Susan Ervin is a financial services lawyer with extensive expertise in financial regulations, both as a federal government regulator and as an advisor to private clients, serving as a partner at two major international law firms. She served as a Senior Derivatives Adviser at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2009-2011, where she participated in the development and implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act. She also served for more than ten years as Chief Counsel of the Division of Trading and Markets at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Ms. Ervin was a partner in the financial services practice at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP and at Dechert LLP, where she led the derivatives practice.
Ms. Ervin has been recognized as a leading derivatives lawyer for many years. In 2015 she was named Washington, DC Derivatives and Futures Law “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers and was named “Outstanding Practitioner” for 2015 at the American Women in Business Law Awards, sponsored by Euromoney Institutional Investors’ Legal Media Group. She is a past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Derivatives and Futures Regulation and of the New York City Bar Association’s Futures Committee. She is the author of numerous publications in the field of financial regulation and is the co-author of the leading treatise on the law of derivatives, Derivatives Regulation (Wolters Kluwer, 2016).
Ms. Ervin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College and with High Honors from Rutgers Law School.
Ravi Balasubramanian, Ph.D. is the founder of Blue Earth Capital Advisors LLC, an investment advisory firm based in Virginia, USA and General Partner of Blue Earth Capital Partners LP, a BVI-based hedge fund. Ravi is a seasoned finance professional with nearly 20 years of experience in a wide variety of financial institutions in roles spanning capital markets, derivatives, risk management and asset-liability management.
Prior to starting Blue Earth Capital Advisors LLC, Ravi was Managing Director and a Senior Relationship Manager at Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in Singapore for nearly four years, responsible for the bank's public sector business across Asia-Pacific region. Before joining SCB, he was Asia-Pacific Head of Commodities Marketing for Citigroup in Singapore for four years, in charge of marketing commodity derivatives to both consumers and producer firms. Before Singapore, Ravi was Head of Asset-Liability Management at the World Bank in Washington DC, responsible for its balance-sheet risk management.
Ravi holds a Ph.D. in Finance with specialization in derivatives modelling and pricing, an MBA in Finance and a B.A. in Electrical Engineering.
Mr. DeLorenzo has worked in the global financial markets over more than twenty five years, based out of New York and London, managing teams across the globe.
In 1993, he began his career at Citibank where he rose to become Managing Director and Head of their North American Foreign Exchange (FX) and short term interest rate trading business. In 2004, he joined Bank of America, where he was a member of the Global FX Management Committee managing sales and trading team of over one hundred professionals in Europe, Middle East and Africa covering corporate and institutional sales, e-commerce, research and trading teams in spot, forwards, options, emerging markets and proprietary positioning. He later led the bank’s global FX forwards and short-term interest rate derivatives businesses, with teams in London, New York and Asia, with both businesses achieving record results under his leadership. In 2011, Mr. DeLorenzo became Societé Generale‘s (SG) Global Head of short-term interest rate derivatives trading, managing teams in New York, Europe and Asia. He was a member of SG’s Global FX and Short Term Rates Management Committees and Bank of England’s FX Joint Standing Committee
At present, Mr. DeLorenzo is a senior consultant at Warriston Place Advisors where he consults with financial firms, corporations and inpiduals on the global fixed income markets, specifically strategy, legal and regulatory issues and the competitive landscape. He is co-founder of Metal Rocks, an Anglo-Vietnamese import/export and consulting firm.
Mr. DeLorenzo graduated from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. Based in London, he is member of the Economic Club of New York and of The Royal Institute of International Affairs.
Ryu Trento is a global executive with over 20 years of industry operational, private equity & alternative asset investment, M&A deal-making, and entrepreneurial business experience in the U.S., Europe , Japan, China/Taiwan/North Asia, and Southeast Asia particularly Vietnam—in food & agribusiness, healthcare, consumer/retail, beauty care, animal health, technology and related sectors.
Trento was formerly Executive Director at TAEL Partners, a top 3 private equity investment firm in the ASEAN Southeast Asia region, where he spearheaded investments ranging from lifestyle brands to blue-chip hospital chains. Prior to this, he was Managing Director & Region Head of Southeast Asia Cluster at Novartis AG, the world’s leading Swiss conglomerate, where he served in global, regional, and local country General Management positions of increasing responsibility (up to a 600-person organization and $1.5 Billion P&L) over 10 years. Earlier, he held senior roles in consumer brand management at Johnson & Johnson North America and others. Before his medical stint as a Specialty Clinician in oncology, he began his international career in M&A investment banking and private equity at Credit Suisse Group in Switzerland, where he led investments into several of today’s iconic technology, biotech, agribusiness, and specialty foods companies.
A Japanese USA national, Trento holds a joint bachelors degree from M.I.T. and Harvard University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He currently serves as a Board Director (and Region Director of Singapore) for Harvard Business School Alumni Association and several leading private family business enterprises throughout Southeast Asia.
